<dc:description>Caffeine and theophylline have been found extractable from human whole blood by stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE). Their determination was made using capillary gas chromatography with thermal desorption and mass spectrometry. Extraction efficiencies of caffeine and theophylline in whole blood samples were 0.10-0.14 and 0.04 %, respectively. The regression equations for caffeine and theophylline showed excellent linearity in the range of 0.15-2.5 (r=0.9991) and 1.87-15 μg/ml (r=0.9999), respectively. The detection limits (signal-to-noise ratio=3) were 0.06 μg/ml for caffeine and 0.4 μg/ml for theophylline. The data obtained from actual determination of caffeine in a male subject after ingestion of coffee were also presented.</dc:description>
