Tissue Polypeptide Antigen (TPA), Ferritin (Fr), Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA), Alpha Fetoprotein (AFP) の5種類の腫瘍マーカーのcombination assayのみならず, 因子分析や多重判別関数式等の数学的手法を駆使して卵巣癌に対する血清学的癌診断を行い, 画像診断による検出率との比較を行った.\nCombination assayによる卵巣癌患者の陽性率は75.2% (76/101) であり, 正常者の9.8% (693/7,097) , 良性疾患の35.3% (1,107/3,139) に偽陽性を認め, とくに良性疾患の中では子宮内膜症が51.7%と非常に高い偽陽性率を示したのが特徴であった.卵巣癌と外性子宮内膜症を含む良性卵巣腫瘍との判別には数学的手法として因子分析が有用であり, CA 125, TPA, CA 125/TPAの3種類のパラメータを用いることによりcombination assayで陽性を示した71例の卵巣癌のうちこの手法を用いて正しく癌と判別できたのは58例, 81.7%であった.一方, 上記の因子分析により外性子宮内膜症を含む良性卵巣腫瘍を正しく非癌と判別し得たのは84.8%であった.\n次にcombination assayで陰性を示した25例の卵巣癌を見逃さないために因子分析と多重判別関数式を作成した.因子分析の結果はFr, TPA, Fr/TPAの3種類のパラメータを用いても25例中2例の卵巣癌を癌と正判別するにとどまった.さらに, 多重判別関数式を2種類(Z_1およびZ_2)適用することにより, 合計14例を癌と正判別することができた.しかし, この操作により偽陽性率は14.5%に認められた.\n上記の血清学的診断に画像診断 (超音波検査) を併用することにより卵巣癌患者を発見する方法を検討した.その結果, 内診で骨盤内腫瘤を認めた患者にはまず画像診断を行い, 卵巣腫瘤と診断された症例を対象に血清学的診断を行うようにすれば,
