The current state of in-hospital midwifery clinical care was assessed by literature search using the following keywords; (1) in-hospital midwifery clinical care/in-hospital midwife clinical care, (2) antenatal examination/antenatal checkup, and (3) midwife. This resulted in 18 reports on actual midwifery practices and 7 surveys of actual midwifery states. To find literature on practical skills considered necessary for mid-wives in in-hospital midwifery clinical care, searches were also conducted for the keywords \"practical skill/clinical skill.\" Two documents fitted in the search. Our findings were; \n1. There has been still no standardized content of in-hospital midwifery clinical practice. Health care guidance rather than antenatal checkups predominates in the practice.\n2. Many facilities required three to five years midwifery experience for assignment to in-hospital midwifery clinical care duty.\n3. The content of \"on the job training\" for in-hospital midwifery clinical care varied with each facility.\n4.
