Usually we think that reliable and accurate psychophysical measurement should be had small variances of responses: variances of intra-day; day-to-day and among subjects, since the small variance resulted in high reproducible responses and resulted in reliable measures. However, the small variances of responses are not only accurate for the measurement but also non-accurate. Large and (or) periodical variance of day-to-day and large individual differences were shown in several psychophysical studies: Bartley phenomena (brightness enhancement); choice reaction time; flicker fusion frequency; auditory and visual threshold; time threshold of hue discrimination. In these studies, amounts of variance and patterns of distribution of response obtained from each individual were maintained over a long period. On the other hand, individuals' intra-clay variances of responses were reduced during first three or four days in consecutive experimental-days. The measurement resulting in the intra-day variance reduced and the pattern of response distribution maintained were high accurate and reliable.
