| 内容記述 | This paper argues that what caused the morphological irregularities of the English reflexive pronoun in the 14th and 15th centuries was not limited to phonological and analogical reasons given in The Oxford English Dictionary. We assume that sociological and psychological reasons contributed to the adoption of the irregular forms. By the introduction of the concepts of 'self-possession' and 'mirror image', we attempt to explain the relationship between the irregular paradigm and the peculiar syntactical behavior of the English reflexive pronoun. | |||||||
